In a world that is suffering growing pains
or shrinking pains, empathy is something that is desperately needed.
The steady infiltration of competing cultural influences has
put some on the defensive. The general apathy of some of the wealthiest
countries has isolated them. As
the gap widens between ignorance and frustration, wealth and poverty,
the more elusive the idea of global peace becomes.
I use travel and
photography as tools for overcoming my ignorance. It also fosters much needed empathy and understanding
for other people and cultures. I
am energized by new ideas and new perspectives. In photography I can open a small window through
which other people can gaze at the world as I perceive it.
